Jack is a very special boy who has captured the hearts of everyone at Mastro Mutts. His story is one of quiet resilience and slow, brave healing. We don’t know what Jack experienced during the first six months of his life, but whatever it was left him terrified of people and the world around him.

Since arriving in his foster home, Jack has been learning what it means to feel safe. With the patient help of his foster family and the companionship of other dogs, Jack has started to come out of his shell. He is gentle, curious, and deeply soulful — the kind of dog who doesn’t give his heart easily, but when he does, it’s all in.

Jack is neutered, fully vaccinated, and completely housebroken. He has a medium energy level, enjoys rough-and-tumble play with other dogs, and then happily crashes in a dog pile for a nap. He recently began climbing onto the couch to cuddle with his foster mom — a huge milestone for this sweet boy.

He is wonderful with other dogs, cats, and respectful children. However, children in the home must understand not to rush or overwhelm him, as fast movements and unfamiliar interactions can still make him nervous. He is still learning leash confidence, but he’s getting there one step at a time.

Jack has two essential requirements for his forever home:

There must be another dog in the home. Jack draws strength, comfort, and confidence from other dogs.

A fully fenced-in yard is a must, as he is not yet comfortable enough on leash to explore the world that way.
